Fractal Campus Survey

As you probably know, we now run a huge office in Williamsburg at 111 Conselyea (~7000 sqft + 5000 sqft rooftop). Currently, we run a coding bootcamp here and have a dozen co-working members who work from here.
We want 111 Conselyea to become "Fractal Campus" a futuristic co-working and third space for our social scene.
If you're reading this, it means we want you to be part of this project. Consider this a formal invitation. We're still trying to figure out exactly what that will look like, and we could use your feedback, hence the survey -- thank you so much.
Yours,
Andrew and Priya

Do you work remotely? And if so, where do you usually work from? Do you or do you want to work from a co-working space?

Options For The Space:

We're considering two main ideas for this space, please familiarize yourself:
1. Here's our craziest idea: The Fractalists LARP.
HOW IT WORKS...
[to fill in]
The Fractalists LARP is inspired by Tyler and Bridget's Fractalists project. TL;DR Everyone who joins Fractal Campus would take on an alter ego -- a caricature of your most potent and significant self. The version of you that can earnestly pursue your greatest work without being self-conscious, without cringing. The version of you that never gives up. The version of you that believes, truly, that you can change the world for the better with your friends, if only you coordinate well.
2. We also have a simpler idea: a co-working space for people who love their work.
Andrew and I used to work out of a WeWork. It was nice to work outside of our home, but we had no sense of community there. We never talked to anyone else, and at lunch we'd eavesdrop on people talking about how dysfunctional their companies were. It wasn't an inspiring place to be.
Our vision for 111 Conselyea would be a co-working space for people in our scene ("friendly ambitious nerds"). The main room would maintain strict quiet hours, while our side lounge would feel like a cozy cafe where you can chat or relax. We'd facilitate people getting to know each other through our regular community-building stuff: events, shared lunches, introducing people who should meet each other, and generally managing the vibe. We'd also experiment with ways to help you do your best work, like daily standup, accountability groups, weekly demos, and 1:1 coaching.

Membership

In both cases, we imagine 3 types of membership: paid members, trial members, and service members.
1. Paid Members -- membership dues are $250/mo, you can cancel your membership at any time, and you will simply pay until the end of that month.
2. Trial Members -- trial members are provisionally joining the space for 1-3 months and submitting a bid for full-time membership. A small council (initially just Andrew and Priya, for simplicity) will decide on accepting each trial member at the end of their membership period, based on their contribution to the community & general good character. Trial membership is for people we don't know as well.
3. Service Members -- service members are offering some form of work-trade or volunteer work in exchange for Fractal membership. This could take the form of donated art, music, events, or media. We basically figure this out on a case by case basis with each service member.
To make the space work financially, we need ~50 paying members by Dec, 2024, and at least 100 paying members for long-term sustainability. Any more members than that would help us tackle larger projects, expand the space, and fund major community art & development projects.

Our office!!

If you haven't been here in awhile, here's how the space is shaping up.
We've started building out our side lounge as a cozy cafe:

We also have a swing, which is a surprisingly good place to think.

Our main room continues to serve as a focused, heads-down co-working space.

We also have a big beautiful rooftop. People take breaks or calls out there, and sometimes watch the sunset. Very occasionally, we use the roof for events. It's a little underutilized tbh.

We also have three backrooms that currently have a dungeon-y vibe and are used for more co-working. We're not yet sure how to best use these rooms and make them feel great. If you have ideas, lmk :)

If you joined, how do *you* want to use the space? Would you co-work here during the day? Would you come here in the evening as your communal living room? Do you have any other ideas for how we should use the space, what rituals or activities we should have, or how we could support you in doing your best work?

Thank you for your feedback 🥰 And if you'd like to join Fractal Campus right now, you can do so here.
